Diverse solutions for the sewer system and stormwater management

HUBER offers various machines and products for sewer systems and stormwater drainage as well as for the different structures for the treatment of combined sewage and stormwater.

  • Screens for pumping stations:
    Trouble-free operation of pumping stations in the sewerage system can be achieved if pumping stations are equipped with appropriate screening systems to ensure that coarse material is safely removed.
  • Combined wastewater screening:
    Before stormwater and combined sewage are discharged into a watercourse, screening plants are used to separate larger solids from the wastewater.
  • Road run-off treatment:
    Special plants for the treatment of precipitation water that is to be drained and treated from roads and other traffic-related surfaces.
  • Protection against flooding and backwater:
    Heavy rainfall events are increasingly causing flooding. Structures should therefore be equipped with suitable products that provide protection against flooding and backwater.
  • Equipment for manholes:
    Stainless steel components such as manhole covers, ladders, step irons, railings, access aids and prefabricated manholes.

The DWA-A 102-1/BWK-A 3-1 Standard is entitled "Principles for the management and treatment of stormwater runoff for discharge into surface waters" and was published in December 2020 by the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA). DWA-A 102 replaces A 128.

The content of A 102 is water protection with regard to precipitation-related urban runoff. Planning principles and recommendations for action are given for both separate sewer systems and combined systems with the aim of minimising undesirable substance input into water bodies and the soil.

In a separate sewerage system, stormwater is collected separately from domestic and/or industrial wastewater and discharged into a nearby receiving water body or infiltrated.

Whereas in the combined sewer system the stormwater is routed to the sewage treatment plant together with the wastewater, the separate sewer system has the advantage that the sewage treatment plant does not have to deal with the hydraulic load of the stormwater and the wastewater sewer can be dimensioned smaller. However, with a separate system, all pipes are needed in duplicate.

Yet, rainwater can also be heavily polluted in some cases. Depending on the degree of pollution, this may also lead to pollution of water bodies, so that so that the rainwater should also be treated appropriately.

In Germany, the trend is increasingly towards separate systems.
