Reliably Comply with Discharge Limits

Production increase or conversion of production make it necessary to upgrade the wastewater treatment systems

For reasons of cost and efficiency, industrial wastewater treatment plants are often planned and constructed according to the current capacity utilisation of the facilities. Changes in production and product changes, capacity increases and other factors often lead to plants being too small at the time of commissioning or after a few years already, and the required effluent qualities can no longer be achieved.

While machine technology that is too small can often be easily adapted to the changed values by adjusting the size, an overloaded biological purification system or a secondary clarifier is much more complicated to upgrade. A tightening of the discharge limits (e.g. with regard to phosphorus) also poses a challenge.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The chemical oxygen demand (sum parameter COD) can often already be reduced to the required quality for discharge into the sewer by chemical-physical treatment (CP treatment). Furthermore, CP treatment is the typical pre-treatment before anaerobic or aerobic wastewater treatment. In any case, the COD retention or reduction can be determined in advance by laboratory or pilot tests.

Dissolved air flotation can be used to optimise overloaded plants, both in the case of indirect discharge of wastewater into the sewer and in the case of direct discharge after full treatment. Precise dosing of the chemicals in combination with the separation effect of the flotation cell makes it possible to adjust the effluent quality exactly. In this way, existing plants can be adapted to changed conditions (e.g. increase in load due to increased production, tightening of effluent values by authorities) without the need for construction work.

In addition to optimisations in the biological treatment system or secondary clarifier, an additional solids separation can be created by downstream filtration (disc filter, sand filter, cloth filtration) or flotation. Flotation can even increase the biological treatment performance, as there is no direct limitation by the separation performance of the secondary clarifier (flotation reliably separates the flocs).
