Los Cabos is the most southern município of the Mexican state Baja California Sur and counts 105,000 inhabitants. The region’s most important economic factor is tourism. The holiday centre Los Cabos comprises Cabo San Lucas and the 32 km easterly located bathing resort San José del Cabo, where the majority of guests are Americans in need of a vacation. The area along the Sea of Cortes is characterised by mainly elegant luxury hotels. The Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Hotel (www.pueblobonitosunsetbeach.com) is situated on an area of approx. 2 ha on the west side of Baja California and has 327 rooms, from junior suite to penthouse suite, with a view onto the Pacific Ocean, and offers its guests a private beach. In 1987 already, the group opened its first hotel in Mexico and runs other high standard resorts in Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta on the Mexican Pacific Coast.
In January 2008, HUBER was requested to submit an offer for treatment of the wastewater from the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Hotel. The treated wastewater should be reusable as irrigation water. With the support from the HUBER subsidiary in Chile, HUBER Latin America y Cia. Ltda., the Hans Huber AG received in February the order to supply a membrane filtration unit VRM 30/480 (inflow: 50-70 m³ h, membrane surface: 2,880 m², flux: 19-27 lmh) and a Ro5 Complete Plant with aeration, grease trap and grit separation. After completed technical clarification and delivery the plant was successfully put into operation in August 2008 by HUBER service technicians.
Also on the Greek Mediterranean coast in Romanos, at the Ionian Sea near the city of Pylos, Costa Navarino on the Peloponnese, a new luxury hotel is presently under construction. The Romanos – Costa Navarino hotel is planned to be opened in May 1, 2010. The hotel offers 288 high standard rooms and 32 suites at the sea with a private infinity pool. In October 2008, the HUBER received the order for the supply of a two-line membrane plant via AKTOR S.A. The lines should be equipped each with a VRM 20/288 unit (membrane surface: 1,728 m² / inflow: 25 – 35 m³/h), preceding mechanical treatment (Ro5 size 3-1) and sludge dewatering system (Ro3Q 280). At present, these machines are in the production stage and are planned to be delivered to site in May. Installation and start-up of the units is scheduled to take place at the end of 2009.
