Process Technology
Preliminary screening is the first step in any water extraction process to remove large to medium-sized pollutants of more than 10 millimetres, such as leaves, tree trunks, plastic containers, plastic film, debris, seaweed and jellyfish. Mainly grab screens and multi-rake bar screens are used for this purpose.
For the removal of fine contaminants in the range of 1-10 millimetres, self-cleaning fully automatic belt filter screens are mainly used. They are suitable for filtering large flow rates in a water intake with a relatively fine degree of filtration. Depending on the required clean water quality of the downstream processes, the screen elements are equipped with filter mesh or with perforated plate. For applications requiring high purity and removal of finest particles in the range of a few micromillimetres, such as mussel larvae, a micro screen is available as an option.
In addition to screen technology, HUBER also supplies shutoff devices as penstocks and stop logs for regulating water flows during water abstraction and for maintenance of water intake infrastructures. The stop logs and penstocks withstand highest water pressures and have a high load capacity even with hard and bulky debris in the water.
