HUBER SE Business Unit Sludge Treatment under new management

On 1st April 2010, Mr. Klaus Martin took over the position of the sludge treatment business unit manager.

Klaus Martin, new HUBER SE sludge treatment business unit manager

Mr. Martin can look back on 25 years of experience in the environment sector. After his chemical engineering studies at Erlangen his professional career took him via MBB, DYWIDAG, ABS and STRABAG to HUBER. During all this time Klaus Martin could acquire a wide expert knowledge in the fields of biogas technology, remediation of contaminated sites, water and wastewater treatment, and in sludge treatment, his new field of work. Mr. Martin knows the environment sector from different points of view: research & development, product management, key account management, project management. He has been working in a managerial position for many years and we are glad to have him with us as business unit manager.

The sludge treatment issue has very much been gaining in importance in the course of the past years, both nationally and internationally. Restrictions and new rules for landfilling of sludge and its agricultural use require new technologies and solutions with a view to volume reduction, treatment of pollutants, and resource recovery. Against this background, Mr. Martin has taken over the business unit sludge treatment in a very exciting and future-oriented phase of market development. Even though HUBER with its comprehensive product portfolio is already well positioned in this market, especially the aspects of energy efficiency and resource recycling are challenges to be met through continuous product optimisation and new developments.

The sludge treatment team that has developed as trendsetting concepts as the sludge2energy project at Straubing is to be further expanded in order to maintain HUBER’s leading position in the field of sludge treatment worldwide.

Mr. Martin, full of expectation, looks forward to this year’s IFAT to take place again at Munich in September.

“2010 is my 9th IFAT and I’m especially happy to present HUBER SE together with my colleagues. I made first contacts with HUBER in 1984 already for liquid manure separation. Now, after 25 years, this is where it comes full circle”, says Klaus Martin in a fair planning meeting.

The comprehensiveness of the line of products for sludge treatment, from sludge thickening via dewatering to thermal treatment, is one of the big challenges the business unit sludge treatment is faced with. The requirements are: continuously opening up to question the present product programme, market observation, responding to the most versatile customer needs on the home market and internationally, and taking the resulting necessary measures. Mr. Martin has by his side a team of experienced specialists in very different fields.

From product management via process development to offer and project processing, the business unit sludge treatment is in charge of numerous demanding tasks. The business unit’s competence is of course also based on the know-how that has always been provided by their colleagues working in other departments of the company. Close cross-departmental cooperation, mutual support from and regular exchange of experience with other business units is the basis for the business success of HUBER SE, which in the future also Mr. Martin wants to contribute to.
